Best local artisans ; Peter Mann's modern heirloom furniture

Peter Manns heirloom quality furniture is hand-made modern -big, quiet, subtle and substantial. We are blessed by many local artisans in our area. They are part of our long Philadelphia tradition of cabinetmaking. Peter Mann, whose studio is in Ivrington, NJ, is one of the very best of them. His work is contemporary and thoughtful, and his list of clients is impressive, including Anne Klein,DKNY,Henri Bendel,Jones Apparel andPrada USA. He has been published in well respected trade journals and magazines like Interior Design, Metropolitan Home and yes, O at Home is among a long list.

Peters work is simple, elegant and timeless. He has a clear vision of his work being about his materials, pushing their limits, and always creating.

Sustainability is integrated into all of his work. .”We use only solid hardwoods; woods are air-dried which is a natural process. Air-drying typically takes about one year per inch of thickness. The benefit of air-drying include much richer range of colors in the wood as well as a less energy intensive and wasteful process, as compared to commercial kiln dried lumber.

He also uses various metals, rolled steel and stainless steel, which are at least 80% recycled, as well as leather and fabrics.
Times are tough in the design world… there is competition from all across the globe. To be an artisan takes real commitment and an extremely high skill level.

Savy buyers know that artisan pieces keep their value. They are usable art, and often have great personal meaning. What bettter way to celebrate a special occasion or new home?
